Møt dommeren til årets Open Show!

Sue Piggott Sue Piggott som har hatt hjortehund siden 1974, bedømmer hjortehundene i Drammen 16. august! As a young teenager I spent my weekends and school holidays, along with a couple of school chums, helping a local Sheltie Breeder, Diana Blount.  When Miss Blount announced she was buying in a deerhound puppy, we were all intrigued and awaited the arrival of “Tarka”, a Rotherwood puppy bitch bred by Norah Hartley.  That introduction started a love and fascination of this wonderful breed.

It was some years later, in 1974, that I was able to acquire my own deerhound, Dufault Loxley from Miss Cecily Cox.  That was the start of my 40 year old involvement with the breed and later The Deerhound Club.  When I first started showing, we were unable to leave straight after judging, and I am very grateful to the then elders of our breed – Norah Hartley, Cecily Cox, Phyllis Poyner-Wall and Margaret Edwards, who would spend time and effort giving advice and information to novice exhibitors and judges.

As my circumstances changed, I was never able to own many hounds and my working life curtailed my attendance at dog shows, but I was always blessed with being able to own my dogs and enjoy the company of many friends through the club.

I joined the Deerhound Club Committee in the Centenary year of 1986, and became Show Secretary for the annual Breed Show from 1990-92 and then Club Secretary from 1997 to 2002.  For the past 12 years I have served as Vice President of the club, working mostly with the annual Breed Show, Judges’ Educational seminars, the website and keeping updated with KC guidelines.

I first gave CCs at Bournemouth Championship show in 1986 and have had the privilege of also judging in Germany, Holland and USA.

I am really looking forward to returning to Norway and thank you for this honour and the opportunity to meet your hounds.
